How to Choose the Right Practitioner for Your Healing Journey

Let’s be real—finding the right therapist, coach, or healing practitioner can feel overwhelming. There are so many options, and it’s easy to get stuck in indecision, wondering:
“Will this person actually get me? Can they really help?”

The truth? Healing is one of the most personal things you’ll ever do. So of course the person walking alongside you matters. A lot. It’s not just about credentials or modality. It’s about how you feel in their presence—safe, seen, supported.

So if you’re trying to figure out where to start or why your current experience isn’t quite landing, here’s a guide to help you choose a practitioner that’s actually aligned with you—not just your symptoms.

1. Get Clear on What You’re Actually Looking For

Before diving into a million Instagram bios or therapist directories, take a beat and ask yourself:

  • What do I want support with right now?
    (Think: self-doubt, burnout, people-pleasing, relationships, trauma, anxiety…)

  • How do I want to feel as a result of this work?

  • Am I looking for deep, transformative healing or just some support through a specific life challenge?

  • Do I have preferences around structure or style?
(1:1 vs group, virtual vs in-person, coaching vs therapy, a specific modality like IFS or somatics…)

Knowing what you want helps you cut through the noise and find someone whose zone of genius actually fits what you need.

2. Look for Alignment (Not Just Qualifications)

Credentials are important—but so is vibe. Seriously.

Ask yourself:

  • Do I feel drawn to the way they speak, write, or show up online?

  • Do they feel warm? Grounded? Direct? Gentle?

  • Can I imagine myself being honest with them?

It’s okay to want someone who feels like a safe, calm presence. Or someone who’s a little edgy and calls you out with love. You’re allowed to choose the energy that best supports your healing.

Most practitioners offer discovery calls or short-term sessions so you can try them on. Give it 2–4 sessions before deciding if it’s a fit. If not? You’re not trapped. You get to keep exploring.

3. The Relationship Matters More Than Anything

No matter how many tools or modalities someone has, healing won’t land if the relationship doesn’t feel safe. This means:

  • You feel seen—not pathologized or judged

  • Your practitioner respects your pace

  • You feel like they “get” you—your struggles, your hopes, your fears

If something feels off, trust your gut. You’re not being picky. You’re protecting your energy.

4. Find Someone Who Understands Your World

The right practitioner will make you feel like you’re not too much, not too complicated, and not alone. They don’t just understand trauma or anxiety or imposter syndrome—they understand how it feels to be navigating it in real time while trying to hold down a job, be a good partner, take care of your body, and live with purpose.

You’re allowed to ask them questions like:

  • “How do you approach self-sabotage or inner critics?”

  • “What kind of container do you hold if I get overwhelmed?”

  • “Have you worked with people like me before?”

5. Consider 1:1 vs Group (Or Both)

1:1 work is amazing for going deep, fast.
It’s personalised, private, and creates space to unpack vulnerable stuff that needs focused attention.

Group work is powerful for healing relational patterns—comparison, people-pleasing, fear of being seen—and reminding you that you’re not the only one who feels like this.

There’s magic in both. Many women find that combining them creates a beautiful foundation of healing and connection. My magnetic program is primarily group with 1:1 and soul expansion is a 1:1 deep journey with free access to magnetic.

6. You’re Allowed to Change Your Mind

You are not stuck with the first person you see. Ever. I wish someone had told me that earlier.

I once spent months seeing a psychologist I just didn’t click with. I felt disconnected, but kept going out of guilt and fear of being “too much.” I kept telling myself it must be my problem, i’m the issue. Eventually, I got brave and asked the receptionist if I could switch to someone else. And you know what? They were more than happy to accommodate my request. The next practitioner I saw was the exact right fit—and it completely changed my healing journey, and I still see her years later on occasion.

Give yourself permission to advocate for what you need. This is your life. Your healing. It matters.

Final Thoughts

You don’t need the perfect practitioner. You need someone who feels right for you.

Someone who sees your strength and your softness. Someone who can hold your pain with compassion and help you move through it—not around it. Someone who reminds you that you’re not broken, you’re becoming.

Whether you land in a 1:1 space, a group program, or a mix of both—what matters most is that you feel safe, seen, and supported.

If you’re curious about what working with me could look like, I’d love to invite you to check out my Magnetic Group Program or my 1:1 healing journeys. Together, we’ll create a container that feels nourishing, transformational, and aligned with exactly where you’re at.

Because you deserve to heal with someone who really gets you. 💛
